The Lord is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him. Let him sit alone in silence when it is laid on him; let him put his mouth in the dust— there may yet be hope; let him give his cheek to the one who strikes, and let him be filled with insults. For the Lord will not cast off forever, but, though he cause grief, he will have compassion according to the abundance of his steadfast love; for he does not afflict from his heart or grieve the children of men. –Lamentations 3:25, 28-33 ESV
Be near to me, O my God.
My enemies pursue me relentlessly,
they encompass me and surround me completely.
With hatred they speak lies and with malice they smear the stain of my former sins upon my face. Their accusations grow louder with each hour; they taunt me until I am broken and afraid–until all hope is but a distant thought.
Like a dry and thirsty sponge, my joy is sapped away. My sin is ever before me; the consequences of my sins are many and great. My soul is torn apart and my life is slain before You.
With countless tears I have cried out to you, for my flesh is weak and I know that apart from your grace I cannot stand.
Why are you troubled and afraid, O my soul? Hope in God! For He does not deal with you according to your transgressions; He has removed your sins and cleansed you according to His great mercy through Jesus Christ. He has paid your random, and your sins are no more.
Why does your heart ache for that which He has taken from you? Do you not know that He is able to fill you and satisfy you out of His own fullness? With all His heart, He has promised to do good to you. Believe Him, for He can be trusted.
The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit. He has heard your cry and will deliver you from all evil and from your troubles.
Seek His face, with all your heart, all your mind, and all your soul. Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to Him; trust in Him and He will act.
O great God! Who am I that you have loved me? Who am I that you have taken away my sins and forgiven me? Much more, that you have saved me and delivered me from the snare of the fowler.
You will rescue me and keep me from all harm. The whisper of your voice silences those around me who speak wickedness and evil against me. You cover me with your wings and you shield me from the flaming darts of the Evil One.
You are good, and your steadfast love endures forever. So I will trust in You. I believe, help my unbelief!
